On Malta you will unfortunately not only find the sun and the sea, but
also a lot of stray animals. Despite the fact that the island has been a
member of the EU since May 1, 2004, animal welfare simply doesn't exist
there. For lots of the Maltese people, animals count for nothing; they
regard animals as "objects" - and objects feel no pain and with objects one
can do as one likes.
Our charity's aim is to support the unfortunately very few animal
welfare workers on Malta in their devoted struggle to help these poor
creatures to find new, good homes.
On the following pages we show you dogs and cats, which have already
left the worst behind them. Some of them are already in foster homes in
Germany, the others are still waiting for their chance on Malta.
Please never forget that each animal has its own - often not very easy
past - about which we often know very little. Mostly they are strays, which
were left with our fellow animal welfare supporters on Malta, or have been
picked up from the roads by them.
During the time the animals spent in their new foster homes, before
they are rehomed, they have the chance to regain their trust in humans. With
lots of tender loving care we help them to get over their traumatic
experiences. In our foster homes the animals are part of the family. This
gives them the best chance to recover mentally as well as physically.
All animals are vaccinated, carry a microchip and have a pet passport.
They have been tested for Mediterranean diseases and in most cases
have been neutered.
