Three pure-bred "tal-Fenek" dogs were horrifically executed in a barbaric act by unknown persons in a farm on the outskirts of Xewkija Gozo.
“This appalling crime was carried out some time during Monday night. The farmer, who prefers to remain anonymous, found his dogs when he arrived early in the morning. They were hanging lifeless from a steel beam in his gated farm,” said the Gozo SPCA. The Gozo SPCA was called to a farm on the outskirts of Xewkija on Tuesday morning to witness the slaughtered dogs hanging.
Police were called to investigate the crime and the veterinary services were summoned by Gozo SPCA to examine the bodies of the dogs before they were removed by their owner. The SPCA said that one bitch was heavily pregnant; another was mother to three big puppies, which were not killed, and the third dog was male. A statement by the SPCA said: “Gozo SPCA absolutely condemns this barbaric act on three defenceless and blameless animals. The crime is made even more tragic since the Tal-Fenek is becoming an increasingly rare breed, which is an ancient and important part of our national heritage.”
“Gozo SPCA appeals to anyone who has any information regarding this crime, to find it in their hearts to contact the Police, so that they can then act on behalf of those poor gentle creatures.” Further Police investigations are underway.
